What is a dental crown or bridge?
Dental crowns or bridges are not dentures. A dental crown or a bridge is cemented onto existing teeth or implants.
A crown can be used to cover or cap a damaged tooth. This can improve the appearance, shape or alignment of your teeth. The crown can also strengthen a damaged tooth. And the crown can be matched to the color of your existing teeth.
A crown might be recommended to replace a filling on a tooth when there is very little tooth remaining, protect a weak tooth, restore a broken or fractured tooth, attach a bridge or cover a tooth that is poorly shaped.
If you are missing one or more teeth a bridge might be recommended. Missing teeth will eventually cause the other teeth in the mouth to shift or rotate into the empty spaces. Missing teeth may cause other problems such as gum disease.
Main Family Dental Care can help you make an informed decision if you think you need a crown or bridge.
